About MonkeyTyping
An independent, free typing test and typing tutor that runs entirely in your browser.
What this site is
MonkeyTyping is a typing speed test, a set of practice modes, and a free touch typing course. You can measure your WPM, drill your weakest keys, work through structured lessons, and download a typing certificate with your result. All of it is free.
Our principles
- No signup for anything. Not for the test, not for lessons, not for the certificate. There are no accounts on this site.
- No ads on the test surface. Nothing competes with the text you are typing.
- Your data stays in your browser. Results, settings, and lesson progress live in localStorage on your device. We never see them. You can review, export, or delete everything at your typing stats.
- Published formulas. Every number we show is computed by a formula we publish in full at how we measure typing speed. No black boxes.
- Lessons are free, permanently. The whole 20-lesson course, with no paywall partway through.
Our other projects
We also build Keyboard Simulators, a separate free site for the hardware side of typing: a switch simulator that plays how 126 mechanical switches sound, a keyboard tester for checking chatter and rollover, and a switch library with force curves. It runs on the same principles as this site, with no signup and nothing to buy.
