Accepting these terms

By using monkeytyping.cc you agree to the terms on this page. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. We may update these terms as the site changes; the date above always shows when they were last revised, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised version.

What the service is

MonkeyTyping is a free typing speed test and typing tutor. It measures how fast and how accurately you type, stores your results in your own browser, and offers lessons and practice modes. There is no account, no subscription, no trial, and nothing to pay for.

Because there is no account, there is nothing to cancel and nothing for us to suspend. If you want your data gone, clearing it from your typing stats page removes it completely, because it never left your device in the first place.

What the service is not

The typing certificate this site produces is not an accredited qualification. It is a record of one result on one test, generated on your own device. No online typing certificate is a government or industry credential, including certificates sold by other sites. Employers who care about typing speed will retest you, and you should expect that.

Our benchmark and average-speed pages summarise published research and industry figures. They are general information, not advice about your job, your studies, or any assessment you are preparing for.

Using the site fairly

Please do not:

• Use automated scripts or bots to generate results, or otherwise fake a score.
• Attempt to disrupt, overload, or break the site for other people.
• Republish substantial parts of the site's written content as your own.
• Present a certificate from this site as an accredited qualification.

Nothing here stops you from taking as many tests as you like, using the site at work or in a classroom, or linking to any page on it. Those are all fine and encouraged.

Content and ownership

The written guides, page copy, design, and source code of this site belong to its operator. The word lists were written for this site rather than taken from elsewhere. Quote passages used in the test are drawn from works in the public domain, with the author and source shown. Where we discuss other typing websites by name, we do so factually and for comparison; those names and trademarks belong to their respective owners, and this site is independent of and unaffiliated with all of them.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to research papers, keyboard-layout projects, and other typing sites so you can check a claim or compare tools. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or their privacy practices.

No warranty, and limits on liability

The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will always be available, error free, or that a measurement will be exactly right on every device. Browsers, keyboards, input methods, and background processes all affect timing.

To the fullest extent the law allows, the site's operator is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site, including lost results, a score you disagree with, or any decision made on the basis of something you read here. Since the service is free and stores nothing on our side, there is very little we could restore for you if something goes wrong on your device, so please export anything you want to keep.

Advertising

If advertising is shown on this site in future, it will appear on content pages and never inside the typing test itself. Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technology, and where they do, that is covered on the privacy page.
